At issue in the US is the fact that we don't have a long time horizon mechanism to actually manage the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy. We have a huge infrastructure in place for the refining and distribution of fossil fuels that could be gradually phased out over the period of 20-25 years as the jobs and investments flow into green energy sources. I don't believe it could be done much faster...but the key is to actively manage the transition regardless of which party is in the WH or Congress.
Do we need to create a Dept of Long Term Planning to manage the budget and an orderly transition to a carbon neutral future?
Its worth considering.
