In my nearly 40 years of flying, I have experienced three in-flight engine failures. I agree with the sound of the bang. In fact, the last one on an A320 sounded the same as hitting a metal garbage can with your car and knocking it over. All were handled Efficiently and calmly by the cockpit crew.

I too was somewhat indifferent to the drama in the cabin. One of the engine failures happened at 1500 feet at night and the flame was extremely bright and perhaps 25 feet long. Very impressive!

I still continue to fly, and after having experienced these in-flight engine failures are comforted by the average normal flight experience.
