Interesting I just read an article in Naval Proceedings where they listed the total size of the US Navy in WW2. Total size: 6,786 ships!

Current Navy size: ~500 ships

It just goes to show you how much our manufacturing played a significant role is creating the supply lines across the Pacific.

That fact coupled with the losses inflicted by our submarine force which decimated Japans's shipping and its ability to supply its troops in the field helped win the war.
