Jessica:

Thanks for writing the piece. I understand that sometimes making some exaggerated claims is part of being a writer and attracting readers but your abuse of historical facts is difficult to ignore here.

We DID liberate the concentration camps during WWII. Specifically Buchenwald and Dachau. Yes, they were largely abandoned with local police minding the inmates while most of the German troops fled. The German soldiers weren't headed to the beach for a holiday. They were running away from the US Army that was in hot pursuit through most of the country.

The US delivered humanitarian relief including medicine, food, clothing, blankets and humane burials for the remains of those that were left.

Ignoring this and characterizing us as the bad guys ignores not only the facts but sullies the reputation of the US troops that fought to end the Nazi regime.

Here is a link from the US Holocaust Memorial Museum about our role as liberators. https://www.ushmm.org/collections/bibliography/liberators

Please take a look. Thanks.
